the only time i've ever seen a couple do it, the guy wanted to stay together, not even see other people, but just back up a step bc he got scared. the chick, who's a total hatchetface whore, decided to flip out, end everything, hit on my boyfriend and get herself a dui cuz she's a fucking idiot.
i say, if you love her, you can work through it. stepping back a notch isn't as bad as it sounds. if you're not sure you love her, then just end it, move to NM and sex me up on the regular
