When a human baby is deveoping, scientists have found the point where the brain is a reptilian brain, mammalian brain, and finally... when the child is fully developed... the human brain. Our classification of "mammal" is simply because we fit the definition. And since we're not "arrogant," we didn't make a new classification.

One person, I forgot who, told some one else to "get an education" because "humans are not animals". When someone that has obviously at least taken biology 101 gives a very educated and informed answer to the topic at hand. And there was a response of "because that is that THEY say it is doesn't make it the truth"
Then another person, maybe the same person, posts a "dictonary" definition that says:

It seems there is a large debate about whether humans are animals or not...
Humans are animals, no scientist would disagree with that statement. A human being (scientific name: homo sapien sapien, and yes, I meant to type sapien twice) is a part of the great ape family. Our ability to build sophisticated tools to help us proceed in life, and make life "easier," does not separate us from the mammalian family.
I'm not sure where this confusion stems from. If you know anything about basic evolution, you would understand that our ancestors did not have the brain capacity for reasoning as we do today - this was brought forth by a genetic mutation that was passed onwards during procreation. This is why evolution is not thought to "flow" as Darwin said, but is more "punctuated," which is what made Stephen Jay Gould famous. If a mutation is not passed on, evolution does not occur.
Not to mention, at one time we had two distinct great apes that were "aware," and had the ability for higher reasoning. This was indeed the homo sapien and the homo neanderthal. The Neanderthals were highly intelligent hominids that happened to die out for reasons unknown. So any claim that we are distinct and unique, one of a kind, is only in reference to the time period. In the past, we were not so unique in the animal kingdom...
So, whoever said that Mike Willoughby needs a further education needs to check in with their own. Human beings are multi-cellular animals that are not-so-different from other members of the great ape family, or to be more precise, Hominidae has chimps, orangutans, gorillas, and humans.

People are animals in that we aren't vegetables or minerals. That's the ONLY scientific basis anyone here has.
Also, do you think the bacteria in our stomachs know that they're part of a bigger organism? Who's to say we're not just cogs in a machine? Zoom out a couple million light years and we're just bacteria in a giant's stomach.

Yes, we do define everything ... that's how we come to any sort of understanding as to what we are apart of. If we didn't have labels for things, we would have no basis for relationship. We classify all these systems in order to relate them ... to see what kind of cousins we have in order to better understand our system. I don't understand how it's not logical to refute that humans and many other animals use relationship in order to understand. It's pretty basic - you start with an axiom and make relationships to understand - that is logic by definition...
So I guess considering you do not believe in axioms and relationships, that mathematics is also incorrect, that 1 + 1 = 2 is not true. The number 1 is a part of a greater system it doesn't understand; therefore, we cannot classify 1 as a number, and 1 + 1 = 2 is then not true. This is essentially what you are arguing.
On NASA faking the Moon landings - I would like to know how we have gathered so much Moon dirt. The Russians never got to the Moon, but were able to recover very minor amounts of Lunar soil. The technology isn't there to gather so much of the soil, it is only possible through direct mission. Not to mention we went to the Moon on several occasions, not just once...why do people say we went once and then stopped? That's not true at all. We stopped going in the early 1970's simply because the government stopped supporting missions because they felt there was nothing to be gained. Having worked at Kennedy Space Center for 2.5 years, I can assure you that the budget is spit. There's just really no money to get to the Moon now, not to mention the orbiters/shuttles were not designed to reach the Moon.
