Re: MDP Review Thread - sTr - 08-20-2012 good god was that bad Re: MDP Review Thread - BiggGameJames - 08-20-2012 the Benoit video was petty awesome i want to see a video for night of the chainsaw Re: MDP Review Thread - BludyKlown - 08-22-2012 could have been a little more killer like the old school ICP but I did like it and it was awesome hearing some of the shit at the gathering this year it was fresh as hell, I like all the songs pretty much. Re: MDP Review Thread - coldheartedpro - 08-24-2012 I got my copy of MDP @ the Gathering this year, and couldn't wait to listen to it during the day while recap what i did the night before. I liked the whole cd, but found it a little popish then. Now that im home and have really listened to it i like it, but it's no, Carnival of carnage or Ringmaster. Re: MDP Review Thread - BiggGameJames - 08-25-2012 Our Rating User Rating 4.68 is the average user rating. 22 people have voted. Welcome to the longest review in Faygoluvers history⦠Well I think it could be but if Iâm wrong Iâm very fucking sure Scottie will tell me lol. Before I go on with This massive review. I will let you all know that Iâve been down with the clown 18 years come this December (Ringmaster Era). Iâve seen a lot of shit in that time as a down ass ninja and I never thought in a million years weâd see a 2nd set of Jokerâs cards. But here it is. I was down since the 2nd Jokerâs card of the first deck and Now here I am reviewing the 2nd card in the 2nd deck. Now enough of reminiscing. Letâs get this started! The Mighty Death Pop Run Time: 63:03 The intro to me sounds like a homage to the intro to 1995â²s The Riddle Box. With the whole âperson dies from being stupidâ and than you hear ICP give out a melodic spoken word style rap explaining the mighty death pop. Something you ainât heard since 1999â²s The Amazing Jeckel Brothers. The title track âThe Mighty Death Popâ samples âEveryoneâs a Winnerâ by Disco/Funk legends Hot Chocolate. Now when I first wrote this I didnât bother reading the credits til this morning after I sent it in. I swore it was a sample of âStayinâ Aliveâ cuz the melody in the hook almost sounds just like The BeeGees. But I got corrected by my own fat prodigious gut and the bossman (Scottie). Now weâre gonna get to the song I couldnât stop playing cuz I feel itâs the TRUE return of the Wicked Shit for ICP. Iâm talking about âNight Of The Chainsawâ. Most folks in our business will go with knives, guns, or an axe but The Duke Of The Wicked goes for the Chainsaw. One of my favorite songs. âChris Benoitâ.. For my thoughts on the song just peep the review I whipped up on the video. The song is great. It has a dub-step feel. I know a lot of people (Like The Wrestling Jesus.. Enjoy the traffic now! lol) have been bashing this song just because of the title. Just get over it you idiots (#LoveThyHaters)!. Now on my latest CD, I happen to have a song called âYouâ whichâs concept is the same as the next song âThe Blastaâ which is pretty much about killinâ bullies (this oneâs better than mine lol *Marks out*). Itâs another one of my favorites on this record. The only thing I like on the âKickinâ Kickinââ song is Shaggy twisting his tongue and stepping into the arena of that good olâ Midwest Hip Hop staple of the fast flows. Shaggy also lights it up on âBazooka Joeyâ. Jesus Christ These guys are really aiming to take shock value to the extreme. It ainât finished yet. They might make a new enemy in the most popular woman-beater in music today. Iâm talking about Chris Brown! Why would that be? Because Violent J straight up talks about killinâ his bitch ass on the song âShooting Starsâ. The duo in clown makeup pulls a âJackassâ and goes with to a happy song âJuggalo Juiceâ which is about⦠You guessed it motherfucka! FAYGO! Obviously âHate Her To Deathâ is about a girl. I can relate on this song because thereâs quite a few ex girlfriends I got that I wish I could just go off on as well. âSKREEEEMâ [Featuring Hopsin and Tech N9ne] is one hell of a collab that shouldâve happened 2 years ago! To me this is ICP and Tech N9ne passing the torch to Hopsin who already has the title of âThe next generation Horrorcore kingâ. I love Techâs verse. Itâs some old school Tecca Ninna on this one! âGhetto Rainbowsâ is very chessy however I canât stop bumpinâ it in my homieâs car while rollinâ around the world. âWhen Iâm Clowninââ is some old school ICP shit here. Just clowninâ it around Wicked Clown Style baby! Complete with bloody bodies and juicy nedens to fuck. âDog Catcherâ is a straight up diss to Dwayne âDogâ Chapman (aka Dog the Bounty Hunter). Iâm very sure heâs gonna bitch and moan about this. But big props to ICP for owning his ass! âDasiesâ I think is almost a story about how a flower grows in the middle of chaos and making ugly look beautiful.. Itâs almost like Miracles.. Well letâs hope it donât do what that song did haha. âWhereâs God?â has brought out ALOT of debate of many things. Some people actually think itâs a diss to Esham (which it ainât. Just because The words âboogiemanâ, ânegativityâ and âCrib Deathâ are mentioned donât mean itâs a diss to Esham. Jesus Christ let it go!) If you really listen to the lyrics, itâs not! This song I can relate to because itâs a true question. With all this shit in the world. Where is god? Iâm not trying to piss off any bible thumpers but they got a point. Than again Iâm a lapsed catholic and I was raised being told that everything happens for a reason and itâs all part of godâs plan. This might be an eternal debate that we should just drop for now and get back to the review. The album ends with âForeverâ which is a great way to end a classic ICP album. ICP just getting on a deep level about change rather itâs good or bad and just enjoying friends and family forever. Mike E Clarkâs Extra Pop Emporium Run Time: 53:36 The hand cramps continue on this one. This was originally gonna be titled âMike E. Clarkâs Musical Murder Mix Vol.3â³ but obviously it was changed to match the theme for The Mighty Death Pop. The intro âTraveling Circusâ just welcomes us to the CD. Itâs a short reason. Now to one of the 2 reasons I picked White Pop. âChris Benoitâ (Kumaâs Scrub Club Remix) Featuring Ice Cube & Scarface. ICPâs lyrics were something. You add 2 Gangsta Rap legends (nobody EVER expected these 2 to be on an ICP Song⦠EVER!!!) in Ice Cube & Scarface. Youâre gonna get something interesting. Ice Cubeâs verse almost mirrorâs the final months of Chris Benoitâs life (note to the wrestling fans pissed at the song already: Donât bash Ice Cube because Cube would whip ya ass. Donât think kids movies and Hollywood made him weak. Heâs still the same Cube from his days in NWA) and everyone whoâs followed Ice Cube since his debut album âAmeriKKKaâs Most Wantedâ knows that if Cubeâs gonna speak on something. Itâs gonna make EVERYBODY think! Scarfaceâs verse is lyrics youâd expect from Scarface. âI donât give a fuck. iâll stab you again, and stab you again, pull out my strap and shoot you againâ type of shit. Raw rugged wicked gangsta shit straight outta Houston motherfuckers! Love it. âWhen Iâm Clowninââ (Kumaâs Clowinâ Remix) Ft Kreayshawn first had me ask this question âWho The FUCK Is Kreayshawn!?â. I still donât know much. All I know is sheâs an Internet rapper who just snagged a deal who has some weird ass raps. Thank Christ sheâs hot because personally, I think she needs a lot of work on her flow. Not saying her verse is bad cuz I liked itâ¦but I think she needs some lessons in how to actually rap. If sheâs reading this I got 3 names for ya to look up: KRS ONE, Nas, & Rakim. Listen to them and rap afterwards. Trust me âLost In The Musicâ Ft Swollen Members is another one of my favorites. Itâs now in my personal soundtrack because it just describes a great quote from Tim Armstrong: âWhen I Got The Music. I Got A Place To Go!â. It was nice to hear that MadChild got his Passport back and is allowed to return to the US because I like this track. I am now a Swollen Members fan. Hey lookie here. So they choose Dog Catchers over âUp Ya Assâ. I think the songâs fresh. Short but fresh. I tried listening to âGhetto Rainbowsâ (Soft Ass R N B Mix) but Iâll be honest here. I couldnât do it. Iâm not a fan of poppy style bands and Color Me Badd was once a boy band back in the early 90â²s (the only one to perform of In Living Colour) Well I tried it. Itâs ok. It just sounds 2 much like a late 90â²s midwest rap song like Do Or Die, Bone or Twista (just throwing random references here). Tho I will give them props for picking the talkbox over autotune. âBirfday Partyâ is another ârecently forgotten freshnessâ track on here. Itâs a nice song about birthday parties and how years later those friends want nothing to do with you anymore. Thereâs alot of people who can relate to that. Wow look at this homies. Willie D and The Demented Duo Twiztid join ICP on âScrubsitute Teacherâ. I wish I had teachers like these guys in high school. That would be some great entertainment. This song is a album stealer. We gotâs yet another ârecent forgotten freshnessâ song here with âPlayinâ In The Woodsâ. It almost pays homage to that great story Shaggy wrote in 1996â²s âTunnel Of Love EPâ. Have ya ever been lost in the woods? I have at night. Itâs not 2 cool but it seems Violent J enjoys it. Light up the joints, blunts, bongs, bowls, pipes, and one hitta quittaâs for âPass It To The Skyâ Ft Kottonmouth Kings. Getting high and passing it to all those greats in heaven. Violent J ainât alone since D-Loc, Dirtball, Daddy X, and Richter join in with more weed to bring these 5 high onâs right to heaven. The final ârecently Forgotten Freshnessâ track is âShugston Brooks 1959-2004â³. Itâs another one of those âViolent J raps in the form of another personâ as noted before in songs like âHellajulahâ, âWe Gives No Fucksâ, and âSuperstarâ. This time itâs about some drunken husband who likes to get drunk and beat his wife. The beat samples a classic REO Speedwagon song. The beat samples a classic REO Speedwagon song âTake It On The Runâ. Itâs a classic rock song to sample for what could be another classic juggalo anthem. âNight Of The Chainsawâ (Joe Strange Remix) Ft Three 6 Mafia YAY! My favorite song on the main album gets remixed with those Triple 6 Thugs straight outta Memphis! I highly recommend this track. This remix is pretty cool. The Emporium closes with âForeverâ (Extended Geto Mix) Ft Geto Boys. We got a great song to close and the remix features the reunion of the Geto Boys! Itâs the first time since 2005 have the Geto Boys been on a song together. I love Scarface and Willie Dâs vocals. Itâs a shame we didnât get a verse from Bushwick Billâ¦I wouldâve loved to hear that. He IS on the chorus just doing that âInsane Jamaicanâ shit heâs known for. Love that lil motherfucker. Freaky Tales Run Time: 63:04 ICP pays tribute to Bay Area Legend Too $hortâs classic anthem from $hort Dogâs debut âBorn To Mackâ. Pretty cool but letâs be honest here. Who really has time to listen to an entire 60 minute song? I didnât. I had to take my own personal time out to listen to this song lol. A lot of chicks like Heather, Michelle, Rosetta, and Melodie just to name a few. Great cover none the less (Personally I prefer Too $hortâs 1995 Sequel âCocktailsâ but thatâs my opinion.). Smothered, Covered & Chunked Run Time: 54:55 The clowns wrap up the cover song fest with âSmothered, Covered & Chunkedâ. The album begins with âPreludeâ which is a cover of NWAâs âThe Preludeâ from their 2nd and final album âEFIL4ZAGGINâ. The only thing thatâs almost the same on this is the fact that Cold 187um was on the original 2 (I own the CD so I can back this shit up fam). The clowns keep it cominâ with âJump Aroundâ. The Classic House Of Pain track gets a new twist from Violent J. Now comes a personal debate for me on this bitch. ICP and Blazeâs version of Tears For Fears âShoutâ. This song did do some justice but than again Iâve heard the original, Disturbedâs version, and this one and put it to the debate.. Iâll reveal that result in the final rating. âAinât No Futureâ pays tribute to both the late great Flinttown rapper MC Breed as well as that classic G-Funk Era from the 90â²s. They even sample that classic Roger Troutman sound. Gotta love that funk. âHold Stillâ yes is a kids song. Iâm serious. Itâs from the Nick Jr show âYo! Gabba Gabba!â. ICP does curse on it so I wouldnât listen to it in front of ya lil ones. The Clowns even pay homage to the legendary AMG on this bitch. With âBitch Betta Have My Moneyâ Ft Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit. HOLY SHIT! I never thought Weâd see this! Maybe in 2000 sure we wouldâve expected it. But itâs 2012? I didnât even know Fred Durst was even alive! Dude still sounds like he has it. Rap/rock might be making a comeback. Either that or somebody might wanna sign Mr. Durst and/or his band to a better contract and have em throw out a new record or give him a chance to drop a solo. ICP also shines well on this. Iâm very sure AMG would be proud. Next up is âNight Of The Living Baseheadsâ. Yes they cover a Public Enemy song that had motherfuckers think. Iâm still debating in my head if ICPâs tellinâ the same message or not cuz letâs face itâ¦crack ainât really big anymore. Sure itâs still around but Meth is now the big drug we all gotta deal with (thatâs on all races 2. Everybodyâs suffering on this one because almost everybody has a family member addicted to meth). The message is still clear and they even have bits and pieces of the original. Ok I been dreading the following song for awhile. The second this song came out originally in the early 2000â²s, everybody I knew was cranking it up like it was fucking crack⦠Annoyed the hell outta me. Then I had a friend just sit and fuck with me because every car I was in he would just go âhahahaha. Joeâs favorite song!â⦠Now that would straight up piss me off. Iâm talking about ICPâs take on Christina Agularaâs âBeautiful (Indestructible)â. Iâm just gonna label that a Parody cuz I was laughing my ass off half the time. After actually taking a serious listen to it I noticed they put their own spin on the track. But even this I wouldânt bump in public because, well.. we already went through this lol. Thank Christ âMind Playinâ Tricks On Meâ Ft Lil Wyte and ABK was right after that because I needed a touch of something completely different. The boys do give the Geto Boys classic a great touch and to finally hear Lil Wyte and ICP on a track together was great! Originally Boondox was supposed to be on this track, but left Psychopathic during the process so out with The Skarecrow and in with the Native Warrior, ABK! He was a great replacement and this track is a great throwback to a classicâ¦. well⦠Throwback! We knew this was coming long before they mentioned it on the infomercial. Another excuse for Violent J to sing a Micheal Jackson song. This time itâs called a tribute (everyone else will call it a sign of disrespect but fuck em!). ICPâs rendition of âState Of Shockâ originally done by The Jacksons ft Mick Jagger. We even hear Violent J do a lil bit of that classic âJackoâ âWHOOHOO!â shit. I heard J did a full on moonwalk in the studio on this one. Now I know Big Hutch himself Cold 187um convinced ICP to pay homage to one of the guys who even helped inspire them to get into this rap biz. Iâm talking about that Compton Azz G himself. The Late Great Eazy Muthafuckinâ E! ICP and Cold 187um pay homage to ICPâs Idol and Hutchâs departed homie with the cover of âLove 4 Dem Gangstaâsâ. The bassline is funky as hell and ICP and 187um pay a real good tribute for Eric Wright who I know is lookinâ down at us in Heaven in a Drop Top 64â² Impala with Pac, Biggie, Breed, and 187umâs uncle Willie âThe Mackâ Hutch ridinâ and lettinâ them hydrolicâs fly bumpinâ this track! The album closes with the classic Willie D anthem âGuess My Religionâ. The same lyrics even. Just some truth that not all of these âhomeless sheltersâ or âsoup kitchensâ are always open for the homeless. The song still rings true 20 something yearâs later and ICP just had to update it. This country has a homeless population thatâs still super outta control. Though some of us need faith to survive, sometimes faith is not enough for everybody. You gotta think about those cold winters in Michigan.. And thatâs on the real! All 4 discâs end the same way. They each have their own hidden tracks which is nothing but something Iâve NEVER heard anybody in the music biz do. Yep. Itâs time to pay homage to the late great Dick Clark and those classic âTV Bloopersâ when ICP gives out their own âOuttakesâ, the shitâs pretty fucking funny. It even proves a point I have been trying to force down a few of my friends throats âGeorge W. Styleâ lol. And thatâs the great saying that âNobodyâs Perfectâ. Oh itâs true. Itâs DAMN FUCKINâ true! All in All, The Mighty Death Pop is a classic masterpeice from the explosive extras down to the packaging. The box ainât regular. These are some high grade quality boxes here. Some shit you can knock on if you need a portable âknock on woodâ moment. I also dig the holographic cover for MDP. This is something I ainât seen on a CD cover since Master-Pâs 1998 joint âMP Da Last Donâ. This is another Juggalo Classic in itâs own way staight from the Wicked Clowns. This has something everybody will love. And thatâs the truth. The Rating: Since this is 4 different discâs so Iâm gonna just give them their ratings one by one The Mighty Death Pop: 5 outta 5 Mike E Clarkâs Extra Pop Emporium: 5 outta 5 Freaky Tales: 3 outta 5 Smothered, Covered & Chunked: 5 outta 5 Total Rating: 18 outta 20! Truthfully I think the albums the best thing they have poot out since shangrila but still none of the songs are classics I won't be disappointed if I didn't see them do the song live. To me that last few albums seemed to be more mainstream friendly and kinda popish. But I do like a few songs [ Post made via Mobile Device ] Re: MDP Review Thread - BiggGameJames - 08-28-2012 why was Up Ya Ass", "Birfday Party", "Playin' In The Woods", and "Shugston Brooks 1959â2004 not on death pop? Re: MDP Review Thread - BiggGameJames - 08-28-2012 Up Ya Ass: Originally recorded for the Mighty Death Pop's main album, but left off the final lineup in place of "Dog Catchers". The biggest reason was while ICP felt both songs were short and unusual sounding enough, which was the goal, the fact was that Dog the Bounty Huntin Bigot deserved a lyrical ass-whippin from the Wicked Clowns more than anything else. Besides that, they agreed that "Dog Catchers" was a better song all the way around anyway. "Up Ya Ass" is a cool little ditty, but is it cool enough to make the 2nd card of the 2nd hand? We think not. Birfday Party: This song was originally meant to be a crazy-fresh collabo with bomb-ass NYC rap act Das Racist. Once they were told the song's concept, Das Racist's management informed ICP that one of their members (Kool A.D.) wasn't feeling the song at all. His partner Heems was down to do it though, so much love to him! MCL Heems. ICP ended up finishing the song their damn selves. Happy with the fresh outcome, Mike E. Clark decided to include it on the Extra Pop Emporium. ICP loves this song's concept. A ninja would really have to have experienced something similar to what the song is about to fully respect it. This song is proof that the Wicked Clowns truly ain't afraid to rap about anything they want. Whether it's shallow, deep, meaningful, meaningless, real or fake, they have no restrictions when it comes to creating freshness. Playin in the Woods: Originally recorded for "The Mighty Death Pop" main album, this song stayed on the final track listing up until the last minute, but was suddenly replaced with "Hate Her To Death". This was not the most popular decision within the ICP camp, as many ninjas still debate over which of the 2 songs better belongs on the main album. They all took a vote and the decision stands. If you think about it, the idea of a creepy, naked lunatic all by himself in the dark forest in the middle of the night is pretty fuckin wicked. Side note: Although she was much too young to understand the songs scary words, Violent J's daughter Ruby loved this jam and wanted it played over and over during long car rides. |
