I really hope someone can help me.... - XIII - 07-08-2009

After Michael Jackson died, I started thinking... when any of our generation's entertainers die, will anyone care?

Is our generation as important as our parents'?

I'm trying to find entertainers who, when they die, it will be at least nearly as sad as MJ.

I've made a list, but I don't like some of the people on it. Can anyone come up with influential people from our generation?

My list so far:
Bono (yuck)**
Eddie Vedder
Dave Grohl*
Mike Patton*
Maynard James Keenan*
RZA*
The Roots*

Anybody can help me?

*I like
**most likely

Re: I really hope someone can help me.... - sTr - 07-08-2009

nobody in the business so far will live up to what they just did for MJ, for the future we'll see. We're just gonna have to wait and see what the next elvis/michael jackson type entertainer comes next....

Re: I really hope someone can help me.... - TheGreenBK - 07-08-2009

I've had this discussion with my co-workers. If anyone as big as Michael died it'd have to be Paul McCartney. I couldn't even think of any musician that was as big as Michael probably nobody now in this day and age

Politics wise, Obama most definitely

Re: I really hope someone can help me.... - sTr - 07-08-2009

! was thinking Paul McCartney but he was saying someone from our generation... Paul McCartney is the man...

Re: I really hope someone can help me.... - Alyzzia - 07-08-2009

There have not been any real world shakers as far as I'm concerned. No one I can think of would actually capture the entire world's attention like he did.

Sure now... give it time (granted he lives to 50) and nobody would care, hell I wouldn't care now.

See, it is starting already.

Re: I really hope someone can help me.... - XIII - 07-08-2009

Dude, Eminem is a flash in the pan. He's like Fred Durst. His career's over.

Also, word at Madonna, even though she's not really my generation (i'm 24 y/o).

None of the people we've listed (except Bono :() have contributed anything to society, other than their overpaid career.

Word, as much as ! Talk shit mj was the man. He really did love the world and the media shit on him because he looked weird. Fuck them, they teach you you're whole childhood not to judge a book by its cover. It's a damn shame. His sendoff was a bit extravagent, but why the shit not...

Re: I really hope someone can help me.... - XIII - 07-08-2009

There is concrete evidence of him donating and creating those listed charities. Unless you have concrete evidence that he was a molestor (NOT THAT HE HAD KIDS VISIT HIS AMUSEMENT PARK), then by all means, comment. If not, keep the speculations to yourself. If for any reason, to respect the dead.

Re: I really hope someone can help me.... - azriley2k - 07-08-2009

Who said anything about being a molester?

He started the North American Marlon Brando Look-Alike Association... He was a big fan...

Funny thing about that. He was Marlon Brando's son's best man, and Marlon Brando's grandson's godfather.

Re: I really hope someone can help me.... - Grimlin - 07-08-2009

I thought about this all day...i can't think of anybody to come even close right now.

It's kinda hard to top MJ's career. The only guy that beats him is Elvis.

We are years away from anybody achieving that kind of fame for now.

I still foresee Obama getting killed. That's about as big as we are going to get for now.

Re: I really hope someone can help me.... - Star - 07-08-2009

imo he's one of the few musicians of our generation that actually did anything worthwhile

-listens to black

Grimlin Wrote:I thought about this all day...i can't think of anybody to come even close right now.
I think our generation is too selfish and high-and-mighty, and it reflects in our celebrities. Unfortunately, that has left us with a severe lack of role models.

Our parents' generation was all about love one another, and take care of your fellow man. The Beatles believed it, Michael believed it... all that. Unfortunately they were carelessly loving, and now our world's in debt, but hey, their hearts were in the right place.

Take a look at Woodstock 69. Now look at Woodstock 99.

Grimlin Wrote:It's kinda hard to top MJ's career. The only guy that beats him is Elvis.
Elvis doesn't even beat him, in my opinion. Michael's career took place in a better time. Multimedia... videos, movies, music, hell even VIDEO GAMES.

All Elvis really did was play music. He didn't try to be edgy. He just played.

Michael was aware of the difference he was making, and wanted to do it.

God bless him, man. You guys have no idea how upset I am that he's gone.

Re: I really hope someone can help me.... - Grimlin - 07-09-2009

Quote:Michael's career took place in a better time.

Maybe, that's the only thing that might have advanced his career.

I don't see how you can say elvis wasn't edgy. All the Glamor and jazz was there before MJ's time.He paved the way for guys like Micheal Jackson.People don't want to admit this.

You can't get any more edgy than this. You just got to remember the time and year of this.

Re: I really hope someone can help me.... - XIII - 07-09-2009

I guess I can't appreciate Elvis that much because I simply don't like his music. I respect his accomplishments, but he's like... Citizen Kane. As awesome as he is, he just doesn't interest me.
