it's because it does the day first, then the month and year, but i didn't notice that - it says 6/7/1987, so it looks right to me, but it's because the month and day are backwards from how they normally are on forms like that

when i was taking french, i was used to writing dates backwards and times in what is called military form over here
i haven't had to do that in several years though, so now it feels foreign again
